I chose to do my article Mother-Adolescent Communication About Tobacco Use in Urban Puerto Rican and Dominican Families in the Youth and Society September 2008 issue. The Credibility of there sources is very significant. They have professors who have dedicated there studies to social work. With this kind of study they have a good idea which makes thm credible. Looking at there bibligography they used alot of articles and books to get there information known. Of the 43 citations a mojority of them were articles. This can be a good things becasue articles from journals can be very effective. they are usually written to an educated people.
This article compares to mine in that we used mainly journals for our sources

Presidential Commercials
In the year 1980 President Ronald Reagan was running for office against Carter and Anderson. He had previoulsy tried to run but was narrowly beat by ford in the 1968 election. One of the ads which was named "Reagans Record" used logical and ethics to appeal to the audience which is the people of the nation. He is trying to get the votes from the people who are undecided.
He starts of listing his Credential. This biggest one that is stated is that He was goevernor of California and was able to get them out of one of the biggest Crisis they had experinced. California was in great debt and on the verge of declaring bankruptcy, he was able to get them out of this and back on top. Everyone in his audience is affected by this because being on top is always a good thing. You don't want your country in debt.
Another way that they stated his credibiality was a quote by a prestigous newspaper which states "governor reagan has saved the state from Bakcruptcy" The San Francisco Cronicle. Many people like to hear that he saved people from a big upset and something that could have changed history.
The ad uses an ethical appeal by stating that he is a strong leader. Being governor of Claifornia is the second most important job next to the president. This may not be how many people see this job but it can affect people becasue they want someone in office who knows what he is doing. Not someone who is inexperinced.

Conference
During conference this past weekend many of the speakers used rhetorical analysis to get there point across. The talk I would like to talk about is the the one given By Elder Robert D. Hales.
He starts out using a Rhetorical question. He says "Why then if we have that love of the Savior would someone want to be an antoganoist or attack us?" The reason this was a rheotrical question was becase he brought this question up for a reaction from the audience. He wanted us to consider this and to get the idea into our head.
Another area of tools that he used was a simile. He used this many times. The first time one that I heard him say was "Respond to our accusers as the savior did". His use of as here is really good because he says as the savior did. Which makes people want to work as the savior did. Another time that he uses a simile is when he using the story of the Cactus. He says "that the cactus seems to shoot needles like a porcupine", this puts a picture into our head and we are able to understand more fully what he is talking about.

Computers
Have you ever been to the library to write a paper and there are no computers available. If this has happened to you it is time to buy a computer. Laptops may be expensive but in the long run they will be worth the money you put into it. The way a computer is built today is the future of what is to come.
If you really don't think you need a computer, consider this; sitting in a stuffy library can be boring, tedious and quiet, but if you went out and bought a computer you could write your paper anywhere you would like.
Having a computer would also bring you to the wonderful idea of the internet. The internet is great for many things and having your own computer will bring it to you faster. You can do anythign online from shopping to facebook and even indexing. But in order to do any of this you would need to walk all the way to the library. Is it worth the walk. I think not. You need a computer. Go out and get one today!

My Hometown!
I am from a place that everyone at this school has heard of, Salt Lake City! Or at least thats what I tell people. I am actually from the township of East Mill Creek. No one has heard of it, so I stick to just saying Salt Lake. It is on the South East side of Salt Lake. It right out side of the city Holladay. Maybe you have heard of it, maybe you haven't. My town is the best town because it has great schools, people, location, and everything else that makes a great town.
Lets discuss the Schools in My town. Did anyone ever hear of Wasatch. If you have heard of it, you are probably thinking isn't that the school that burned down. Well yes it is the Junior High that burned down one summer, but what alot of people don't know is they were ranked number one in the state for academics. We might not have been amazing at sports, but we didn't need to be. The other junior high in the area was able to make our high school one of the best atheltic schools. Skyline! It had alot going for it. It was amazing in everthing it did. We had our ups and downs, but overall we were a well rounded school.
The location of my town is prime location. It is just far away from the city that you don't have to deal with all the noise or the crowds and the traffic, but it is close enough to Salt Lake that you can be there in fifteen minutes for shopping or the Jazz games. Thats another thing we have an NBA team that is doing way good lately.
Alot of people say that growing up in Utah can be very difficult. That there are too many mormons and that it can be difficult to keep your standards if people of your faith aren't keeping there own standards, but you just need to find the right group to hang out with. I never had the temptations to do what was wrong.
Everyone should Live in Utah.

What I like most about college
When many kids move out on there own they are expected to get a job. It can be a very difficult thing to be able to balance your homework, social life, and a job.
In reality, its not that bad. It makes you a more responsible person and in its own way it helps you balance your life. You will know when to study and when to go hang out. You can't procrastinate it as much because you won't have the time to do it. Late nights are not always that fun and doing them every night can be a killer. With having a job you adjust your time to get things done, rather than saying I will do it later.
I had a job my whole senior year and I have one now and I feel that I have put more of an effort into my school work. My junior year I would just laze around and watch t.v or play on the internet until it got way late and I ended up staying up half the night trying to finish everything. Having a job made things easier because I knew that I wouldn't have time to do my homework later so I would try my hardest to have things done before my shift at work started.
Having a job in College could be the answer to all of the procrastination problems out there.

Most Disliked thing at college
BYU has been a way good experience. Things are alot different than high school and it is hard to adjust. Thats what makes it fun. People are moving away from home and experiencing so many new things. There are going to many likes of it and many dislikes of this experince.
So Far I have liked everything about college. I think that it has been a good for me to move out and be on my own, but if there was one thing that I don't like its the fact that so many people have to get a job. It is so hard to work and go to school. Having a job can bring more stress to all of the activites you are already doing. I personally have a job and I would not think it was that bad, but there are days when I don't get done until way late at night and I start way early. I understand that we need to have jobs, and there is no real way around not having one. Its just hard sometimes.
College can just be difficult and all the stress added together could make anyone sick. But I guess its good that we learn how to deal with it now, because after college it is going to be so much harder becausw you will need a full time job.
